Hey, I’m Dan Grisoni!

I didn’t set out to be a leadership coach.

My career started in Training & Development and HR, steadily rising through the ranks until I was leading global learning and HR initiatives for a New York–based company.

On the outside, it looked like I had everything under control.

But on the morning of September 11, 2001, everything changed.

I was on the 28th floor in Manhattan when I saw the second plane strike the World Trade Center. Fear gripped me. My heart raced. I felt utterly overwhelmed and strangely alone, even while surrounded by colleagues.

In the days that followed, I supported coworkers as they processed their fear, grief, and uncertainty. One by one, they told me:

“You helped me feel heard.”

“You helped me see a path forward.”

“You helped me take the next step.”

That’s when I had my own “A-HA” moment. Leading wasn’t just part of my job… it was my deeper calling.

It’s moments like these that continue to remind me there’s a VERY big difference between a manager and a leader.

A manager knows how to check boxes.

Run meetings.

Set deadlines.

Maybe even uses the all-too-familiar carrot and the stick.

But a leader knows how to bring humanity into the workplace.

See team members as people first.

Inspires them to do their best work.

And become peak performers, highly creative thinkers…
